What it does

Copilot in Business Central brings AI help into the SMB ERP: analysis assist for filtering and grouping list data, marketing text generation for items, bank reconciliation assistance, sales line suggestions, and a chat that answers "how do I" and finds records and actions.

Key facts

  • Several distinct features, not one assistant: Chat with Copilot, Analysis assist, Marketing text, Bank account reconciliation assist, Sales order/line suggestions, and more added each wave.
  • Copilot capabilities are included with Business Central but must be enabled by an admin; some are off by default.
  • ISVs can build their own Copilot capabilities into AppSource extensions using the AL Copilot toolkit — so a client's Copilot surface may include third-party features.
  • Availability and languages vary; some features are region-gated at launch.

When to use / skip

Switch on Chat and Analysis assist broadly — low risk, quick "how do I" and reporting wins. Trial reconciliation and sales-line suggestions with a power user before opening them to everyone.

Configuration decisions

  • Which Copilot features you enable in the admin/feature management page.
  • Data movement consent, since some capabilities process data outside the geo — review the terms.
  • Which ISV-provided Copilot features are in play and their data handling.

Gotchas

  • Some features carry a data-movement or preview-terms consent that admins must accept. Skip it and the feature simply won't appear.
  • Marketing text and suggestions still need review — great for a starting point, not for unattended posting.

Consultant notes

  • BC clients are cost-sensitive; the included Copilot features are an easy value story, so make sure they're actually turned on.
  • Check whether their AppSource extensions add Copilot features and where that data goes — governance still applies.
  • Confirm regional and language availability for the specific features the client cares about before demoing.
