What it does

Copilot Pro was the consumer paid subscription that added priority model access, higher limits, and Copilot inside the Office desktop apps for individuals. Microsoft has retired it and folded its features into the new Microsoft 365 Premium plan.

Key facts

Copilot Pro is closed to new customers; Microsoft retired it in late 2025. Existing subscribers keep it until they cancel, with support ending 1 August 2026.
Its replacement is Microsoft 365 Premium, a single consumer plan (about £/$19.99 a month) that bundles Copilot Pro's AI with Microsoft 365 Family Office apps and storage.
Copilot Pro added priority access to the latest models at busy times, higher usage limits, and image generation boosts over free Copilot.

For a client asking about it today, the answer is usually "it's being retired, look at Microsoft 365 Premium instead" for personal use, or "you want Microsoft 365 Copilot" for the business. Copilot Pro (or Premium) suits an individual power user who wants better limits and AI in their own Office apps. Skip it entirely for organisational work: it doesn't touch business data, doesn't appear in admin or compliance tooling, and isn't the enterprise product.

Configuration decisions

Decide whether existing Copilot Pro users migrate to Microsoft 365 Premium before support ends, or let it lapse.
For individuals, confirm whether they already hold Microsoft 365 Family/Personal, since that changes what a Copilot Pro/Premium licence actually unlocks.
Keep personal Copilot Pro/Premium clearly separate from any enterprise Microsoft 365 Copilot rollout, they are different products with different terms.
For a business enquiry, redirect the requirement to Microsoft 365 Copilot rather than a consumer plan.

Gotchas

The naming collision is brutal: Copilot Pro (consumer) and Microsoft 365 Copilot (enterprise) sound alike but differ on data access, price, and governance. Get this wrong in a proposal and it's embarrassing.
Copilot Pro alone doesn't put AI in the desktop Office apps; it needs a Microsoft 365 subscription behind it.
Buying Copilot Pro/Premium never grounds Copilot on company SharePoint, email, or Teams data, that's the Graph-connected enterprise product only.
The retirement dates matter; quoting Copilot Pro as a live purchase option in 2026 will be wrong.

Consultant notes

If a client says "we'll just get Copilot Pro for everyone," stop them: for business data they need Microsoft 365 Copilot; Pro/Premium is a personal plan.
The clean split to memorise: Copilot Pro/Microsoft 365 Premium is consumer, individual, no business data; Microsoft 365 Copilot is enterprise, Graph-grounded, admin-governed.
Watch the moving pricing and packaging; Microsoft has reshuffled these consumer plans more than once, so verify before quoting.
For an individual who wants Office plus AI at home, Microsoft 365 Premium is now the coherent answer, not the retired Pro plan.
